According to a paper by Shaw T, et al. on “What is eHealth (6)?”, there are several definitions that can explain “eHealth”. In your opinion, what should be a definition of eHealth?

I think the definition of eHealth should be the electronic system that empowering health management in which three major distinctive disciplines (Health mobility, Health interaction, and Health Data) have intersected.

Yes, the communication and sharing the health data between physicians and patients efficiently is the key of the eHealth. Thank you for this definition.

From my point of view, eHealth is a concept for improvement of health data management by using technology and innovation. Some eHealth project can pointed the policy and strategy appropriately. Moreover, certain eHealth project can improve the quality of life of patients or population.

Now, we have different opinions whether eHealth could be “technology”, “concept”, “practice”, “system”.

For me, eHealth could be all of that. It’s a concept that use technology in health practice and become the system.

eHealth used technology to build the system under an appropriate concept leading to the best practice for improving health.

eHealth in my opinion not only electronic data in health, data collection, data transfer I think eHealth must have
1. Health data management : store, transfer, use in report
2. Health data for physician decision making : level alert, combination of data to alert warning sign eg. GRACE score calculation, interpretation and treatment recommendation for individual NSTEACS patient.
3. Big data analysis for new health knowledge. How to clean data and use data to create new model or knowledge for patient prevention , intervention. Today clinical research must collect, random, and use statistical method for interpret relation, outcome, etc. for create new information to use in patient but this is take a long time to finish each project. If can use health data that collect in HIS, new health knowledge can publish in everyday depend on new research question.
4. Health information dashboard in model of epidemiology (time, place, person). This information can use to health policy makerIn overall eHealth must combination of technology, concept, practice, and system.
Technology : combined old tech to new tech of eHealth.
Concept : Deep and Broad (technical, clinical and public health)
Practice : Use eHealth for new practice of physician (new knowledge, warning alert, recommendation treatment, recommendation drug dosage)
System : New system that can use all health resources, put them in eHealth and use it together.-

According to Shaw T, et al, eHealth is integration of information technology in health and wellness in 3 domains (health in our hands, interacting for health, data enabling health) resulting in empowered consumers, informed and responsive professionals and efficient and connective systems.

The paper explains very well about the eHealth, and it widens my vision on the understanding of eHealth. After reading the paper, compiling my previous knowledge about eHealth, I assume that “eHealth is the practice of maintaining, improving and enhancing not only the individual’s health but also the health of the population by using digital interventions effectively and efficiently”.

Great opinion that define the eHealth in both individual and population. In addition, I would consider to wording “D-Digital in stead of e-Health in the future. 🙂

According to a paper by Shaw T, et al. on “What is eHealth (6)?”, there are several definitions that can explain “eHealth”. In your opinion, what should be a definition of eHealth?
I agree with the conclusion of the definition of the eHealth from paper by Shaw T, et.al. that eHealth must have the clear definitions and include in all three domain parts 1) system itself; using eHealth technologies to monitor, track, and inform health 2) interacting for health (using digital technologies to enable health communication among practitioners and between health professionals and clients or patients), and (3) data enabling health (collecting, managing, and using health data).
eHealth is a broad term, and refers to the use of information and communications technologies in healthcare. eHealth covers a lot of territory, which is why digital health industry experts often contest exactly what the term means – and to add to the confusion, it’s also frequently used as a synonym for Health IT.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines eHealth as: “the cost-effective and secure use of information and communication technologies in support of the health and health-related fields including healthcare, health surveillance and health education, knowledge and research.”
To me, eHealth means the linkages of electronic based technologies to create, enable and improve the health system that aim to increasing overall of quality of patient’s life. The interaction between each unit in the healthcare system should be involved in the system. The patient care, monitoring and treatment can be performed easily even in the remote area under the e-health model system and the funder can ensure that the project able to implement efficiently.

In my opinion, eHealth is health system empowered by information technology to improve individual’s health and public health. eHealth can help patient to get precise treatment as well as reduction in health related costs. eHealth can support clinicians to provide better care to patients. eHealth also plays vital role for policy makers in response to infectious diseases by providing real time data. The last but not the least, eHealth can reduce workload of staff working in health sector.
