      COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this course we are going to be learning some relevant mathematical modeling concept and its application in epidemiological studies.  Students will be asked to revise on some basic mathematics such as differential equations, distribution and probability for example. We will learn how to set up appropriate questions for modelling. We will develop models from scratch to build the understanding on the disease transmission dynamics and use R Programming language to code and run the model to answer those research questions. The principals of economic evaluation when making the health policy decision will be introduced in this course.

      Prerequisites

Graduate in Bachelor degree in Health sciences, computer sciences, and ICT

      LO: Learning Outcome

LO1: Explain steps to construct a transmission dynamic model of an infectious disease

LO2: Writing basic R programming and follow basic model coding

LO3: Estimate model parameters and disease measures and interpret the results

LO4: Modify the model to study interventions and predict impacts in real situations

LO5: Interpret model predictions and perform economic analysis to come up with some recommendations for disease control and prevention

LO6: Discuss and criticize the published articles on modelling
