These questions are interesting to find the best solution to implement a web-based application for patient appointments.
For Q1: Why would you choose cloud server, rather than physical server?
> I agree with all of friends who choose cloud server. It supports mobile and collaborative applications and services.
Cloud offers many advantages over standard storage, for healthcare data solutions including more secure remote access, business continuity, and cost savings. For the hospital that has only one IT officer, to use cloud computing can improve healthcare services delivery for patients. There are rapid deployment of cost-cutting, productivity-enhancing and transparent applications.
For Q2: What kind of cloud computing service model would be most appropriate (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)? Why?
> As I know from case studies and some researches, they have opted to deploy the cloud using open stack, such as, IaaS and Cloud foundry like PaaS, but SaaS can use all advantages of the cloud. Let me share, I found a paper that describes about could service as well. It’s named “Impact of Cloud Computing on Health Care” (you can read full version from a link I have attached as below)
For example passage:
“Healthcare actors must also consider the cloud service model (IaaS, PaaS, or SaaS) that best addresses their
business requirements. In many cases, SaaS, with its payper-use business model will be the most attractive economicoption, especially for small physician practices, since the need for full-time IT personnel is eliminated along with capital expenses associated with system hardware, operating systems and software. PaaS is a viable option for larger healthcare institutions that have the resources to develop their own cloud based solutions. For healthcare institutions seeking a more scalable infrastructure, IaaS offers a costeffective turn-key solution that provides scalability with security, flexibility, defined service level agreements, built-in backup and data protection.”
In my openion, for Ajarn Saranath’s requirement, the most appropiate cloud service model is “SaaS” because a hospital has a limitation of resource (human & money) One IT officer can not do everything by himself. Them I have to choose a model with low complexity and less effort. For example, an IT officer does not have to upgrade software by himself (need least technical skill)
