Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Week 1 Topic discussion 1 in the forum TMHG528 Disease Surveillance and Public Health Investigation 2021 3 years, 2 months ago
1. Regarding COVID-19 disease, surveillance can help to describe the burden and epidemiology of the disease, such as what age groups are the most vulnerable, what regions that have the most case, etc. Surveillance can also monitor the trends and help the authorities can act quickly when the cases are increasing. In addition, by doing whole-genome…[Read more]

Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Topic 4 Ethics 2 in the forum Week 5 : Information technology personnel and change management 3 years, 2 months ago
Before sharing the data, we first must check if the documents needed for permission and data requests are complete. Then I would discuss with relevant stakeholders about the request and asking for the agreement. If the request is granted, then the data will be de-identified the individual, by not including the names, full addresses, and contact…[Read more]

Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Topic 3 Ethics 1 in the forum Week 5 : Information technology personnel and change management 3 years, 2 months ago
I could not agree more with everyone. It is against the ethical code to share patients’ medical records without their consent. As a health informatician, we do not have the authority to disclose patients’ health status and interfere with other people family issues. Telling my friend about her husband health status may embarrass them, so in tha…[Read more]

Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Topic 2 Change Management in the forum Week 5 : Information technology personnel and change management 3 years, 2 months ago
The project management needs to be improved if we want to successfully develop a health information system. In the case study that I experienced, if we are looking at ADKAR model, the failure is mainly due to lack of knowledge and ability that leads to no reinforcement of using the new system.
Awareness: Team members were aware of the aim of the…[Read more] -
Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Topic 1 Determinants of Success and Failure in the forum Week 5 : Information technology personnel and change management 3 years, 2 months ago
We tried to develop a health information system that can help us to manage, visualise, and analyse data that we have been collected for several years. We want to change from having to use different software/platform to only use one platform for all. We used an open source and free platform that have a good and intuitive user interface. However,…[Read more]

Thank you for the nice presentation Tossapol. It is a really interesting project that benefits all parties involved (health practitioners and patients). I definitely agree with what the other said. The long-term benefit makes the cost of developing the electronic-based worth it. Overall, it would make the health practitioners work more efficiently…[Read more]

Thank you Taro, Arwin, and Ashara for participating in the discussion.
Taro, thanks for the information! I think this adds the value of using mobile and wearable devices, the data could be used for research that hopefully lead to the improvement of public health.
Yes, in terms of cost, Apple’s devices are actually expensive and you are most…[Read more]

I do not have any experience using DSS in my organization yet.
One factor that might be the influence for an organization to use DSS is the functionality and advantages, particularly in epidemiology and surveillance. It would be easier to monitor and assess key indicators of the disease. Although, I agree that too many alerts can cause alert…[Read more] -
Karina Dian Lestari replied to the topic Topic 2 Health Information Standards in the forum Week 4 : Roles of Information Systems in Public health Practices II 3 years, 2 months ago
Not using the ICD standard would be very disadvantageous. Some of the reasons are as follows:
– Data exchange between hospitals would be impossible to do because other hospitals have different term/guideline
– Hard to analyse data and generate report because there is a possibility of duplication by having the same meaning but with different…[Read more] -

I pretty much agree with Arwin’s opinion on the one cause of burnout. I imagine that health practitioners at the hospital are using paper-based medical record for so long, changing to electronic will takes a lot of time to get used to. In addition to proper training, a refreshment training (maybe once a year) is needed especially if the system h…[Read more]

Hi all.
I would like to share an interesting eHealth project that I use which is Health App from Apple. It is an application installed in wearable and mobile devices (iPhone, Apple watch) that can help to track, monitor, and organize your vital health data. Let me know if you also use this kind of devices and let’s have discussion below. Thank you. -

One example of big data in health is data collected from wearable devices or smartwatches. They have the 7V of big data characteristics, such as:

A yearly reminder of the danger of cybersecurity attacks will be very beneficial for the employees and company. I may also add that the IT personnel should also implement a strong email security system to reduce suspicious emails from unknown and untrusted senders.

I agree with Auswin’s comment above that the reputation of the third-party vendor needs to be carefully considered. Moreover, I think it is also important to have a yearly audit and evaluation to ensure that the security implementation is in line with the agreement.

Thank you for the brief summary. I agree that the employees need to be educated on data security and also cybersecurity attacks like phishing. In addition, SalusCare also needs to implement a security system for email. If someone sends an email with link, there should be a warning to remind the recipient before they clicking link or download attachment.

I agree, security measures for paper-based data are also needed to be applied just like the computer-based data. The regulation of data destruction is also an important aspect of preserving patients’ data privacy, including choosing the trusted professional companies that can destroy the data securely.
Thank you for the comment, Dr Saranath. -
