Since I work as an IPD pharmacist (part-time) in a private hospital, I have not been much involved in seeing the complaints from physicians. However, as I observed from the first period that the hospital tried to implement the EMR, instead of paper-based, some physicians insisted on collaborating as they took more time to prescribe the orders (time-consuming), concerning that every case needed to be treated as fast as possible. During that time, the doctors have written orders and the nurses then transcribe the order to the EMR system. Later on, we found that there were some transcribing errors and adding workload to the nurses. We need to eliminate this error. The hospital regulation emphasized every healthcare provider to use EMR system and encouraged a paperless campaign. As I know, the user-interface was updated and showed better user-friendliness. Additions of decision support system also ease physicians, such as alerts of drug allergies or duplicate prescriptions.
I agree that development of EMR requires meeting between healthcare users and IT officers to understand the objectives and concerns. The healthcare users will also receive training of the program and learning developed from practices. Currently, most healthcare workers are able to use the EMR efficiently with ongoing system development.
