I agree with you all. ICD standard allows us to utilize health data more effectively, in terms of data analysis and data sharing. ICD standard can also be mapped to other related standards, such as SNOMED-CT.

I’m just thinking what would it like to have voice transfer record for EMR. Doctors would need to record their voice describing patient’s findings. Still, this process should be done in extra of their routine work. Doctors might need to record after seeing the patients- this also create an extra work for them.

Thanachol, totally agree with you! People part is the most important for system implementation.

The problem of scanned records is that we cannot make use of those data effectively. With conventional analysis technique, it would be difficult to analyze this information.

Hi Pyae, it would be great if the developers can listen to the users and modify the system accordingly. However, most hospitals (in Thailand) do buy a hospital management system package from somewhere. Unfortunately, many hospitals do not have a programmer that is capable to fix or modify the system. As I think the feedback or comments on the…[Read more]

Ameen, yes having potentially benefit both at individual and organization is really important for system implementation.

Yes! This is the main problem. If the system was designed with the aim only to get as data as the organization want while does not think about people, the system is likely to be against by the users.

Hi Chalermphon, as data users side, you would see the quality of final dataset if the data input was not effectively implemented. This could limit the use of data for Public Health.

HI Tullaya, totally agree with you. It take a lot of time and afford to enter data into the EMR system. Most system does not design to assist physician’s work. I can imagine how hard it is to implement EMR in such a large hospital with lots of patient visits a day.

Please give an example of a system in your organization (either successful or fail)—this could be the same system you mentioned in the previous topic discussion (Topic 1). Do you think that the organization appropriately managed the change or not? Think about ADKAR model that we just learned.

Saranath replied to the topic Week 3 Topic 2 Big data in health in the forum TMHG 523 Principles and Foundations of Public Health Informatics 2019 5 years ago
Good question! And I don’t have an answer for that. It’s very difficult to determine how big of the data should be called “Big data”. That’s why people keep adding more Vs characteristics to the term “Big data”. One of my project, we applied a machine learning technique (suppose to be a technique for big data analysis) to only 400 patient recor…[Read more]

I agree that the iMoji system would be very useful to help monitoring and control MDR-TB. In my opinion, a challenge for this system is how to visualize and interpret genetic data to let public health people understand and can make use of it.

Anothai, quality of data input into the system is an important issue for developing a system, otherwise it would be difficult to make use of the data. This is why attempt should be made to integrate existing data from different sources to reduce data input workload.

Akkarin, having electronic data entry at field site is a challenge, both IT and people sides. Before implementation, we have to prepare well to make sure that the implementation will go smoothly. Otherwise, people may have bad impression with the system and then against to use it.
