As an informaticians, you should not release or disclose information of others without their consent. As this scenario is about HIV, a sensitive information, it’s obvious that disclose the patient’s information is not appropriate and may result in negative consequences.
What if your mom’s friend was admitted with general diseases (non-…[Read more]

Wow! Totally understand your situation. It’s a big challenge for developing and implementing a system for such a big organization, with many stakeholders involved. I’m not sure if it would work or not, if we could try to adopt the agile development process that we learned in project management topic. This process may help to speed up the sys…[Read more]

Leadership commitment is another factor to determine the success of a system. If the high level staff did not accept the system, it would be difficult to maintain the system at full function.

Hello Patcharapol, training might not be that effective if the users still do not have good awareness and desired. You ask people to learn for the thing that they don’t want to use. They might not pay much attention to the training.

Penpitcha, you raised an interesting point! A system that has been shown to be successful in one place might not be successful when implementing in another place. Each organization (even at small level) has its own culture and system, the system must be able to customize to fit with local users.

Thanks for sharing your experience on banking system. IT implementation in financial sector is far beyond healthcare system. One reason that I think is that in healthcare sector, there is no solid financial gain from the investment, as compared with business and financial sectors. This could make the investment in HIT a bit slower. But at least,…[Read more]

It seems that the system is successfully implemented. Beside a technical problem that you would like the system to be improved. Could you think about what make the system successful? Why would people like to use the system?

Saranath replied to the topic Week 4 Topic 3 CDSS in the forum TMHG 523 Principles and Foundations of Public Health Informatics 2019 5 years, 5 months ago
CDSS (if well designed) could provide a potential benefit to the EMR. The uses would see the benefit of filling data in the EMR system. However, if not well designed, the CDSS would be ignored and may create negative consequence to the EMR system.

I agree with you all. ICD standard allows us to utilize health data more effectively, in terms of data analysis and data sharing. ICD standard can also be mapped to other related standards, such as SNOMED-CT.

I’m just thinking what would it like to have voice transfer record for EMR. Doctors would need to record their voice describing patient’s findings. Still, this process should be done in extra of their routine work. Doctors might need to record after seeing the patients- this also create an extra work for them.

The problem of scanned records is that we cannot make use of those data effectively. With conventional analysis technique, it would be difficult to analyze this information.

Hi Pyae, it would be great if the developers can listen to the users and modify the system accordingly. However, most hospitals (in Thailand) do buy a hospital management system package from somewhere. Unfortunately, many hospitals do not have a programmer that is capable to fix or modify the system. As I think the feedback or comments on the…[Read more]

Saranath replied to the topic Week 4 Topic 1 Health Information Exchange in the forum TMHG 523 Principles and Foundations of Public Health Informatics 2019 5 years, 5 months ago
Yes! This is the main problem. If the system was designed with the aim only to get as data as the organization want while does not think about people, the system is likely to be against by the users.

Hi Chalermphon, as data users side, you would see the quality of final dataset if the data input was not effectively implemented. This could limit the use of data for Public Health.

HI Tullaya, totally agree with you. It take a lot of time and afford to enter data into the EMR system. Most system does not design to assist physician’s work. I can imagine how hard it is to implement EMR in such a large hospital with lots of patient visits a day.
