Many of you suggest to let doctors involve in the EMR development process. Please keep in mind that you should carefully select the doctors to get involved. Ask doctors that are likely to accept to a new change, those who know the needs of having EMR. Once the system implemented, these doctors will be persons who encourage the EMR used for others.…[Read more]

Probably, one reason that Thai doctors do not complain about this issue is that EMR in most hospitals in Thailand is not a full EMR. Many hospitals still let doctors write in a paper, then scan it to the hospital information system (with enforce doctors to put only diagnosis and treatment in the system). Or some hospitals assigned nurses to fill…[Read more]

Seems that most of you give examples of big data from social media, business, and other sectors besides healthcare.
Do you think that data from your Hospital information system would be considered as big data?

But in my opinion, data from the HDC could be considered as big data, although its characteristics do not follow the 10V.

It seems that you have to enter retrospective data in the paper-based into the electronic database. This is very difficult and time-consuming work. I hope that from now on, data will be recorded directly to the electronic system. This would be very useful for data utilization in the future.

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is another helpful eHealth project- it has been reported that the EMR can shorten visit duration, reduce human errors, etc. However, data standards and interoperability are an important function when the data have to share among different departments.

It’s great that you have experience in data utilization to assist decision making. It will be really helpful if the database system is fit to the user’s needs.

TanRabad is a very useful App for dengue control. I’m glad to hear that the App is widely implemented throughout the country. I totally agree that convincing people to use the App properly is the most challenging issue for the success of the project.

Thanks for the brief description and propose the solutions for the particular event. Recently, one hospital in Thailand just was hit by the ransomeware. It caused shut down of almost all activities in the hospital. Regularly and appropriately backing up data is another important part to recover from the ransomeware attack.

Deidentification of data is a good method to protect privacy data. However, this could limit the data use by physicians and radiologist. It’s quite a challenge to balance between data security and data utilization.

This event reminds us to think hardly when we hire the third party to work on our database. We should be able to check whether their procedures were well conducted.

Although the HIPPA is strictly followed in the US, we still have heard this kind of report from time to time. Think about our countries, sometimes people don’t take this issue seriously. Particularly, when big crime or accident events happened on the news.
