If one day while you are playing the internet through the web browser, there is a warning message suddenly prompting that “Your computer is now infected with 20 viruses.” Click “Clean” button to kill those viruses. What will you do? Why?

I definitely will not click the “clean” button. This type of pop-up is usually malware or some kind of scam. So, when I encounter this pop-up, my immediate response is to close the browser. After that, I check if the system’s firewall is enabled, run the antivirus program to scan for any viruses or malware, update the browser to the latest version, and consider changing the password of the account that contains my personal information. By taking these preventive methods, I can ensure that my computer will be quite safe.

I agree with Nichcha. I won’t click the clean button either. Almost all the pop-ups on the websites are threats to my security. I’ll make sure I block these banners and pop-ups from the browser settings and use the necessary internet security software.

I would not click the “Clean” button because such pop-ups are often scams or phishing attempts. Instead, I’d close the tab and update my antivirus software to run a full scan. This is a safer way to handle potential threats.

I will definitely ignore it. I think such scams are very common as pop-ups, even when you go to some reputable websites, these kinds of pop-up ads still exist. Common examples are those saying that your storage is full, your phone is infected with virus, or you are the winner of some big prize. If you believe these messages, you will most likely be led to provide your private information or install some very bad malware. We would be able to dispel these kinds of scams with common sense and basic information literacy: how could a website in the browser somehow have access your data without your authorizatiob and perform a virus scan in an instant to know that your phone has a virus? It’s simply not possible and fake.

If I were to come across a warning message while browsing the internet that states my computer is infected with 20 viruses and urges me to click a “Clean” button, I would refrain from immediately clicking “Clean,” closing the browser window, or initiating a legitimate antivirus scan. This is because there is a possibility that the message might be a phishing attempt or a tactic employed by malicious individuals to deceive users into downloading or installing malicious software.

If I see a pop-up message of ‘Your computer is now infected’, I will be highly suspicious of a potential malware attack and I won’t click the link. I have been trained in the former organizations to be aware of unusual emails or messages that sometimes persuade users by the form of winning money, IT gadgets, and vacation trip or threatens users to open the links as well.
I will ignore the email and run the anti-virus software to make sure there is no attack. I will also install AdBlock in the browser to prevent further unwanted messages. -

The first thing to be aware of is not to follow such kind of suspicious instructions. We can manually close the browser tab and run the trusted antivirus to identify and remove any threats if it is accidentally infected. We may also need to update the operating system and check the security settings are properly configured. It’s best to change the password for personal and important accounts that may leak any important information personally or financially. Following the recommended digital hygiene and security measures will protect our invaluable assets and sensitive personal information.

For me, I will never hit the clean button ofcourse as same as everyone because it is probably a malware. I will certainly block and remove any notification that come from suspicious sources or websites. Also, I need to check for the update antivirus and operating system in my computer and enable them to run system update automatically in order to keep it active all the time to enhance its ability in protecting my computer against the new viruses or any updated malware.

As my classmates discussed, I will also definitely not click on the clean button to remove those viruses. I would be cautious of the possible attacks of scams and spyware that will steal my personal information, destroy files, and slow down my computer’s performance. Instead, I will block links in the pop-up window, check and update the firewall on the operating system, and run and update the anti-virus software, including anti-spyware, to cope with the latest internet bugs. In the later phase, I will also try to put the security settings in the system and browsers and change the strong password to protect from intruders.

I also agreed with my classmates. I will not click the ‘clean’ button which is possibly a scam. I would close the browser and run the antivirus program. Moreover, I would update the browser to the latest version to protect my computer.
