Respiratory Syncytial virus (RSV) infection is one of the most common respiratory tract infection especially in children and high risk adults. It cause annual outbreak during rainy and winter months. The disease burden estimated by WHO for children under 5 years old around the world is 33.8 million each year , death 160,000 cases. While most cases have flu-like symptoms, it has potential to spread to lower tract causing severe pneumonia, respiratory failure and subsequent death. Yet RSV infection treatment is symptomatic, there is neither specific treatment nor vaccine. However, this infection can be preventable. RSV surveillance system will help early detect and diminish spreading and eventually control number of severe cases in community during the seasonal outbreak.

Your work is very useful for RSV control in the future. Nowadays, the incidence of RSV infection is really high. It can affect both children and adults and may cause serious respiratory complication which needs invasive ventilation. To reduce disease, early detection of an outbreak is a crucial strategy. I agree with your case definition that divided in to three categories. The data collection and transfer method is comprehensive and easy to follow. In addition to data utilization that was mentioned, the data can be analyzed and give us more information regarding RSV outbreak, for example, people at risk of serious respiratory complication, etc.
Thank you.

It’s a concise presentation and the diagram is easy to understand.
I have an idea of the type of surveillance system as disease surveillance, which I understand it needs accuracy, but if adjusted to mixed with syndromic surveillance it may be faster to control the outbreak.
All in all, the system is very interesting and would like to be implemented in order to reduce the mortality rate of RSV infection.Best!

Your surveillance system is comprehensive and useful for Thailand. The data flow diagram is clear on where the data was collected and transferred through the system.
I believe that once we know the outbreak of the disease, we could use this surveillance system to identify the further causes of the disease, such as the specific area that have a high number of cases, (so health education to prevent disease transmission may require?). Then, we may use a surveillance system to identify risk factors or RSV-related data to support the RSV preventive plan and take action for public health.Thank you so much for sharing the interesting surveillance system.

I agree with you that school and pharmacy should be corporate in this surveillance program. Because most of the time, parents will go to pharmacy for buying medicines for their kids before going to the hospital.
In addition, I appreciate how you enumerated us data flow diagram, data collection, and transfer method.I am sure that your surveillance program can lessen the RSV infection cases.
Thank you for sharing us your comprehensive and detailed surveillance program! -

As I am also doing an assignment in this very same topic, I must say that your presentation is very comprehensive! RSV really is a threat these days, I have seen many children suffered from RSV pneumonia and it was very bad.Your presentation on stakeholders also include community leader and village health volunteer, which are also a great idea to help detecting the outbreak because it really helps reduce the workload for healthcare providers as well!

Thank you for sharing.
Your presentation is nice and comprehensive.I personally experience the clinical trial of RSV. I think another important thing in case definition is that the definition of symptoms for example the cut point of fever, the route of temperature measurement, the definition of each symptom and duration. Sometime parents may give us the inconstancy data as well.
Your surveillance system project is good and premising in Thailand
Hope one day we have something like this in our country 🙂
