The disease I have chosen to develop a surveillance system for is poliovirus infection, focusing on the Myanmar context due to its classification as a high-risk and preventable disease.
This plan aims to address challenges posed by political instability, poor healthcare infrastructure, and limited access to vaccination in high-risk populations, including refugees and underserved ethnic minorities.
The proposed system integrates Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) surveillance, community-based reporting, and environmental sampling, supported by key stakeholders such as international organizations, healthcare workers, and local leaders.
Leveraging information technology tools such as GIS, data analytics, and interoperable systems, the system will enhance data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
Evaluation indicators, including reporting accuracy, timeliness, and system usability, will ensure the system’s effectiveness in detecting and preventing poliovirus outbreaks in Myanmar.
Thank you for sharing your detailed plan integration of AFP surveillance. Community-based reporting and using technology like GIS and data analytics is a strong point. How ensure timely data sharing between stakeholders in remote areas?
Hello Cing, thank you for sharing your project along with the background information of Myanmar. I also faced challenges in formulating a surveillance system due to current situations as we seek to interoperability while the situation in Myanmar becomes more and more fractured and data will be in silo in their own respective controlled areas.
Thank you for sharing the polio surveillance system of Myanmar. In my opinion, utilizing the advanced information technology tools that you mention will be effective in Myanmar health care sectors. For the timely data sharing, it will be challenged in remotes areas.
