What are some specific ‘external variables’ that you think might influence an individuals’ perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness of a new technology?

External variables that may influence to perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness for new technology are
1. User interface and user experience, this is the external factors that users can touch them and these are the factors that technology will be selected.
2. Processing speed in the application, if apps are very complex this may result in slowly response. User may not select the slower response application.
3. Output of the technology that should be responded to the requirement of users.

I think these external variables could be
1. Technology literacy
2. Trust in the system
3. Past experience with prior adoptions -

The ‘external variables’ that I think might influence an individuals perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness of a new technology are
– Easy to use, features and steps are not too complicated.
– Privacy and security of new technology
– reliable system -

Some of the possible external variables for new technology are:
– Age, it is relatively harder to teach older people about new technology
– Income status, wealthier people are exposed to new technology sooner
– Environment/peer influence, relates to whether people around them using and recommending this new technology -

I agree with Karina with all her points stated above. In change management, there should be an sense of urgency why change or shift is needed such that the intended users will be aware of this new technology.
To add, complicatedness of the new technology, ease of transfer/transition from old to new technology, and reviews/feedback on the new technology are some of the external variables I think would affect perceived usefulness and ease-of-use.

I think external variables that might influence an individual’s perceived ease of use of new technology are
– Age, because younger generation tends to learn about technology faster
– Education and electronic literacy
– Socioeconomic status
And variables that might influence an individual’s perceived usefulness are
– Education
– Social and peer influence
– One’s need for a specific reason. For example, people with specific health problems might perceive the usefulness of one specific application that helps to solve their problems more than the general healthy population. -

I think the external variables that influence an individuals perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness of a new technology including:
– Age: people who are younger easier to learn new technology than older.
– Relevance to their life: new technology could solve their current problem.
– New technology is user-friendly. It not complicated to use. -

Factors related to learning ability, experience, attitude toward use, frequency of new tech use might influence perceived ease of use and usefulness.
For example,
1) Elderly may feel challenged to learn new things and have low frequency using systems, 2) socioeconomic – people with low income may not have an appropriate device/facility to assess new tech, which leads to inconvenience and low experience, 3) some people think that the new tech does not have a relative advantage over the current practice resulting in their low perceived usefulness -

Age: the younger generation has the capacity to accept and adapt to new technologies.
Experience in successfully accepting new technologies
Certain social status allow people to expose more new technologies, and gain necessary support to adapt. -

3) Media and advertising
4) Social influence
5) Reinforcement from the organization
6) Trustworthy of the system -

According to the extension of the TAM, the social influence processes and cognitive instrumental process play vital roles acting as external variables affecting the perceived usefulness. From my experiences, I think the specific external variables would be subjective norm and job relevance. At my organization when we tried to implement an electronic record system, these two variables seemed to spark some of the staff’s intention to use the TAM. And as for perceived ease of use, I think age and digital literacy count as external variables.

Some specific external variables, in my opinion, are:
– sense of urgency: one who accepts it is the high time to accept the new technology might adopt it faster than the others regardless of other factors such as user-friendliness
– peer pressure
– presence or absence of the feedback and support system. -

In my opinion think that the external variables that might influence an individuals perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness of a new technology are:
Fist of all, I do agree with the input from our student as above such as age, education, level of technology (complexity of technology) etc.
To add, I think that personalization and connectivity would be the external variable that might influence the individual perception.

I think social and peer influence may play an important role on an individuals’ perceived ease of use or perceived usefulness of a new technology. I also think ecological models which recognize multiple levels of influence on human behaviors, including: Intrapersonal/individual factors, which influence behavior such as knowledge, attitudes, beliefs, and personality can explain what can affect perceived usefulness of a new technology both external and internal factors as a holistic way.

The other external variables that might affect the perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness would be the quality of content, faith in application, utility, entertainment, price, design, playfulness, playfulness, and collaboration.
