The main objective of an experimental study is to assess whether the intervention is working well or not. There are three terms related to the outcome measure in experimental study:
1. Efficacy
2. Effectiveness
3. Efficiency
Could you give a brief explanation of these three terms?

The outcome of the intervention can be divided in 3 types:
1. Efficacy is the outcome of drugs.
2. Effectiveness is the outcomes of intervention.
3. Efficiency is the effectiveness that compare with intervention cost.
Efficiency = Effectiveness/Cost
In some definition Efficiency = Effectiveness/Cost x Patient experience
This definition is concerned about patient feelings of hospital services. -

Efficacy: measure effect in ideal conditions ex. on papers, in laboratories
Effectiveness: effect in real life conditions ex. in clinical trials
Efficiency: cost and benefits ex. Is it worth doing?

1. Efficacy: How the vaccine performs in ideals condition or controlled clinical trial
2. Effectiveness: How the vaccine performs in the wider populations
3. Efficiency: the probability the vaccine will prevent someone from catching diseases.

1. Efficacy means the capability to desire the outcome.
2. Effectiveness means the effect of outcome
3. Efficiency means the ability to achieve an outcome with peak performance.

1. Efficacy: capacity of achieve the objective or goal when given intervention under ideal or controlled conditions.
2. Effectiveness: capacity of achieve the objective or goal when given intervention under ordinary situation.
3. Efficiency: doing things that become good ratio of the output to the input. -

– Efficacy is the capacity of a given intervention under ideal or controlled conditions.
– Effectiveness is the ability of an intervention to have a meaningful effect on patients in normal clinical conditions.
– Efficiency is doing things in the most economical way.

1. Efficacy: the capacity to have the desired result of a given intervention under a controlled environment
2. Effectiveness: how well that given intervention works in normal condition
3. Efficiency: whether the given intervention is the most economical option (in terms of time, energy, money) to do

Efficacy means getting things done (is it working?)
Effectiveness means doing the proper things (is it actually working well?)
Efficiency means doing things right (is it working within the most economical way?) -

1. Efficacy – how an intervention performs in ideal setting
2. Effectiveness – how an intervention performs in real-world setting
3. Efficiency – measure of utilization of resources to implement the intervention. -

Efficacy refers to a particular intervention’s ability to perform in controlled settings. Effectiveness is the capacity of an intervention to have a significant impact on patients in real-life conditions. Efficiency is assessing the intervention in a cost-effective way.

Efficacy measures the capacity for beneficial change in ideal environments and conditions, while Effectiveness measures to do so in realistic environments and conditions.
Efficiency refers to the ability to do things in the most economical way. -

Efficacy is getting things done. the ability to create the expected effect
Effectiveness is doing the right things in the clinical trials how well the treatment work in the real world.
Efficiency is doing things most economically. It is the ratio of the output to the input of any system. -

“Efficacy is the capacity of a given intervention under ideal or controlled conditions.”
(The outcome brought about by the intervention of an experiment study is efficacy. We don’t know for sure if the outcome would be the same if we implement that same intervention in a real world setting – which is not an ideal nor controlled situation.)“Effectiveness is the ability of an intervention to have a meaningful effect on patients in normal clinical conditions.” (It is the level of effect of an intervention in a real world setting. It helps us to know how much benefits an intervention of an experiment study could bring outside of the study – external validation.)
“Efficiency is doing things in the most economical way.”
(Minimizing resource, time and money needed for an intervention as few as possible and maximizing the desired outcome results as much as possible is the concept of efficiency.)Ref : DOI: 10.23937/2643-4512/1710035

The meaning of “efficacy” is a true biological effect of treatment (intervention), “effectiveness” is the effect of a treatment (intervention) when widely used in practice, and “efficiency” is a measurable concept, quantitatively determined by the ratio of useful output to total useful input.

In the health sector, efficacy is the capacity for the therapeutic effect of an intervention under ideal conditions. Although effectiveness has the same meaning as efficacy, it measures under normal clinical conditions to have a meaningful effect. Efficiency is the ratio of the output to the inputs of any system.
