I would like to explore the tuberculosis screening in community hospital level. Patients may have asymptomatic TB infection or latent infection within the community. Other than active symptomatic patient, to get asymptomatic patient into treatment also help decrease disease burden. As well treatment adherence and host immunity is key factors to treatment success. I am interested in the screening strategy to implement to the community level to target at patients with latent TB infection. How would different screening strategy affect the number of patients with active TB?

Skills and knowledge in health informatics could help with outbreak detection, response and control in different roles. If certain system is setup to monitor specific disease condition, early detection of outbreak can be achieved, for examples, identifying disease trends in EHR. Syndromic surveillance systems monitoring symptoms rather than diagnosis can help with early disease detection. As in outbreak response, with good information system, information of certain disease can be shared among each part of healthcare personnel and response to the disease outbreak could be done effectively and timely. As for disease control, prediction model can help plan vaccination strategy to prevent disease outbreak for example seasonal Influenza vaccine.

Based on my background in medicine, I am not familiar with either public health or informatics. According to the required competency in health informatics, I need to gain more knowledge and skills in all three domains as follows.
In aspect of health and biological sciences, I have background in medicine. I need to expand my knowledge into public health field eg. health prevention, disease surveillance or concept on public health system. This would help understand more of the whole system of public health.
In aspect of management and social sciences, I need to gain more knowledge and skills in business administration, as well as laws, ethics and human resources. This would enable me to be better in managing projects and make it more effective.
In aspect of computational and mathematical science, In need to learn about basic programming, information technology, statistics as well as health data standard, databases, data visualization and data privacy. This is the important basic knowledge to be an expert in this informatics field.
In all, I need to expand my knowledge in all of these aspects, more specifically knowledge and skills related to the data issues as I have very limited knowledge. I believe this would enable me to understand more and incorporate these skills solve health problems more effectively.

I would like to create mobile app for patient scheduling as well as to track their own symptoms. As mobile app is able to install in patient mobile device and easy to use for them, this would help improve their awareness in their own care and compliance in treatment as well as help reduce the missed schedule and improve workflow on the visit date. I would like to add feature like self evaluation tool or score to evaluate disease status and can be alert for urgent condition before the scheduled visit. Moreover this data can be further used to track symptoms not only on the visit date and would help improve patient based treatment outcome.

I agree on the health record examples in many aspects. While all aspects are important, I would like to highlight the standardized data formats and user friendly software that can incorporate into routine workflow within doubling unnecessary document/data input tasks. As well, maintenance of software and hardware is important in maintaining the system to operate well. It is worth to invest and improve the system as many errors as well duplicate studies or investigations can be avoided with the well-operated information system.
