Supawat, sometimes it’s quite difficult to design a system that serve the needs of all stakeholders. This is quite a challenge for project managers (which usually are informaticians) to compromise the needs and the feasibility of the project.

Chalemphon, I agree that informatician should be the one who guide and assist the communication between healthcare providers and IT professionals.

Yes!!! This is the real situation! Many health professionals have no idea what the system that they would like to have. In addition, many IT professionals do not quite understand healthcare structure. This is why we need health informaticians!! And you could see how hard work that health informaticians have to face.

Chalermphon, I’m glad that you bring issues related to the 43 files system up. In my opinion, I agree that the standard 43 files system has a number of problem. But at least our country already started on the data interoperability and EA. Also, the EMR can increase the workload, which could influence data quality. In the US, there has been a law…[Read more]

Hi Pyae, absolutely agree with you that what we see now is that each program tries to develop its own data collection system to serve data required by funder. This is quite burden officers at operation level, as they need to fill out too many systems (each system for each disease). In Thailand, the government has set a standard dataset, called 43…[Read more]

We don’t need a unify EMR system for every hospitals to be able to share the data across country. Each hospital can develop and use their own system. But with the thought of EA, each system should have a plan for data interoperability and implementing data standards. In healthcare, we are very much aware of data privacy and it is a challenge to…[Read more]

Absolutely, people-ware is the most important factor to determine the success of HIT project. This reminds the definition of Health Informatics = Health + information + people.

Hi Ameen, to make use of data, we should have a good system for data collection. There are several challenges related to HIS, including data quality, data privacy & confidentiality, and people who provide input data. It’s not easy to manage, but it isn’t too hard to implement as well.

Totally agree with you, as an Informatician, we don’t need to be able to do everything by our own. But we should have related knowledge and communication & team working skills to be able to work with other disciplines and lead HIT projects.

Public health informatics and medical informatics have similar core concepts, such as data standards, privacy & security, data utilization, and IT issues. I hope that knowledge and skills from this class would also help you to apply to your clinical practice. 🙂

What are the characteristics of the data that fit into 5Vs, or 7Vs, or 10Vs of Big data characteristics?
