I like the idea of having blood pressure measurement at pharmacy. Then you need to think about how to get information from the pharmacy into the system.

Thanks for sharing the interesting article. Obtaining data from private sectors is always a big challenge for the surveillance system. I agree, as NCD is more and more prevalent now. It become a major public health problem in many countries. However, the structure of surveillance system for NCD might need to be adjusted and might be a bit different from the routine surveillance system for infectious diseases.

In the case study of the surveillance of melioidosis disease, it is interesting to see a large discrepancy of number of deaths between the national reporting system and the actual number of death cases from hospitals. We would not be able to recognize this until we did the evaluation.

Great! I’m thinking about having active case detection for influenza. As influenza is quite a common disease, if we have to do active case detection after index case reported by passive case detection. How much workload and cost would it be? For prevention of an outbreak, we can do quarantine of suspected cases and probably clean the e…[Read more]

So, you would like to integrate entomological information into the system. Entomological information could be a part of syndromic surveillance, as this information could be a proxy for dengue transmission in the area.

Yes! We need a research support. The surveillance system should produce effective data for research; and research should provide results that benefit to the surveillance system.

Clinicians in the hospitals actually play an important role for outbreak detection, as most index cases are likely be reported from hospitals. But doctors usually pay more attention to the treatment of patients, rather than reporting the information to public health authorization.
I also agree that we need an evidence to support that the…[Read more]

Yes. Data quality and timeliness of report are very important for outbreak detection and response. Although the system has advanced modules for early warning, but it still relies on the quality of data in the system.
