Saranath replied to the topic Topic discussion Covid-19 Dashboard in the forum Week 1: Data Visualization Concept 4 years, 10 months ago
To Thanachol:
This dashboard is quite a very first and popular dashboard. This is an informative dashboard and use sub-window for each measurement: cumulative case, incidence, active case, case-fatality ration, etc. The limitation of having multiple windows is that it’s difficult for reader to compare among different windows. For example we would…[Read more]

Here is from Thanachol:
I like COVID-19 dashboard from John Hopkins University from this link https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html. This website provides three main updated dashboards including world map, the US map, critical trends. The first world map is the number of total confirmed cases worldwide and is presented in an interactive geological…[Read more]

This is a great dashboard. If you compare with other dashboard, this one has very effective interactive action. The information of interest immediately pop-up when you move your mouse to each category (very short response time)– especially the map and doughnut chart. Unlike other dashboard that you would need to click on it. A summary table also…[Read more]

It’s great that you show us the “don’t do” dashboard. In fact the one that you refer to is an infographic to summary the MOPH work. We can go to the real dashboard at https://covid19.th-stat.com/ you need the other two clicks from your page.
I totally agree that I do not like pink color. This is the first thing that came up to my mind when…[Read more]

Agree! This is quite a long dashboard- this might be because this is a news channel that people usually read through the whole page and not suppose to click on different window.
In my personal opinion,
1. The area line chart that stratifies by sex, this might be better if we use stack column chart (or histogram). For by age group chart– there…[Read more] -

Great! There are two things that I personally do not like.
1. For line chart, the x-axis seem to immediately finish after the last the data point. If they provide an additional scale after the last data point, it will make us feel that this is still an ongoing process. It would make us get an estimate forecast by ourselves.
2. This is a static…[Read more] -

This is a quite informative dashboard. I agreed with your opinion. One thing that I don’t like is the panel that we can compare number of daily cases by region. There are separate histograms for each region, each one has different y-axis scale. In this panel, we can only compare the trend of cases but different axis scale we could not compare the…[Read more]

Saranath replied to the topic Privacy issue in GIS in the forum Week 3 General Issues 4 years, 11 months ago
Hi Ameen! Yes, plotting map has a privacy concern. According to the HIPPA laws, areas or locations smaller than zip code is considered as identifiable data. For GIS mapping if you work with aggregated data (mostly we work on this), such as the data presented at sub-district, district level— this should be fine as you would not be able to i…[Read more]

For paper-based CRF, you can have edit trail by using cross line, sign, date every time you correct the data in the CRF. This will at least provide you a tracking when and who changed the data.

As we mentioned in the lecture that these processes are the full option that we have to follow fo a clinical trial for product submission. For small project, we may not need to implement all these steps. But having a written plan would be very helpful when you want to go back to the study again. For every research project, data quality and data…[Read more]

Doctors are the most difficult group to work with for data collection. You may need to monitor the response rate closely to adjust the mechanism to get more response rate. Sometimes you may need a personal contact, provide incentives (which not always money), etc. As we learned in the TMHG523 for project management, we may need to listen to them…[Read more]

Data quality is the main issue for research. This is why data management is very important (but seem that many research does not pay much attention on this). Well planed data management would really help the quality, reliability of the research or projects.

Yes, CRF design is a very first step in data management. When designing the CRF, we need to think about all stakeholders involving in the data management process. We will learn more in the next topics.
