Good discussion among you all! Both overestimated and underestimated number of cases could have impacts on public health. So, evaluation of data quality is an important indicator to monitor the performance of the surveillance system.

I think, besides the IDI and FGD, observation method is also interesting to explore (if possible). Sometimes, you will never understand that person’s situation or thought, until you put yourself in someone’s shoes.

Agree! RSV can cause a severe disease in children. When there is an outbreak, a school has to be closed. This could have a large impact on parents and schools.

If we have a surveillance system for Zika, we would need a system that can detect mild or asymptomatic infection, which the conventional passive surveillance might not be enough.

If Zika surveillance is considered as highly important, there should have more other similar diseases be considering as highly important. Such as dengue, or toxoplasmosis (cause congenital anomaly). What do you think?

Early warning is a great tool to control the disease at early stage. However, developing an early warning system is such a challenge. You would need the system to provide valid predictions and warnings. Too many false positive may create alert fatigue—people will then ignore the alert. Too many false negative may create uncontrolled outbreak.

What prioritization level that would be appropriate to the Antimicrobial resistance (Highly important, notifiable, or for statistics)?

Totally agree with you. The information from the HPV surveillance would really help to determine vaccine coverage and effectiveness.

What do you think about the “burden” of Rabies disease? It would be more useful if we could integrate the rabies surveillance both in human and animals.

Agree. The 506 report is a great system for disease reporting. However, the delay reporting data is the main limitation to use the data from 506 system to make “early warning” function.
