The one disease which needs surveillance is HPV related diseases (genital warts, precancerous and cancerous lesions). Although HPV infection itself does not need to be reported because there might be no symptoms and due to the possibility of spontaneous resolution, the diseases caused by the virus needs to be notified (it should be a notifiable…[Read more]

It’s true that Rabies is a very lethal disease once infected, and it’s surveillance status should be set as highly important. It also has effective preventive measures (including vaccination availability), so having a watchful eye on it might be beneficial to the public.

In addition to the routine dengue surveillance system, initiating fever surveillance in the community would improve case detection. Due to human resource scarcity, training the existing basic health staffs at all levels of the community on dengue surveillance (including vector surveillance) and providing necessary tools for reporting would not…[Read more]

The one surveillance system in my country I’d like to give as an example is “Maternal Death Surveillance and Response (MDSR)”. The system was rolled-out in 2017 with reports and case summaries of maternal death from all levels.
For impact assessment, the ability of the system to measure trends and estimate magnitude of maternal health problems is…[Read more] -

It made a light bulb goes on in my head. I did use carrot and stick method a lot on my data entry assistants. Because I am the one to produce reports, and feedback to those reports only come back to me, the entry assistants might not see how important the validity of the data is to the whole organization. I need to find a way to make them deeply…[Read more]

The way I lead usually alternate between “affiliative” and “pacesetting” depending on the circumstance. However, I would like to try “coaching” style when there is enough time for a certain objective. This is because I think that this style can develop my team for the future.

According to the article I read (https://achieveiconic.com/leadership/leadership-qualities-of-steve-jobs), he was adaptable to all styles of leadership, the most significant ones being:
– Visionary: his confidence and creative vision encouraged his team to reach their common goal.
– Pacesetting: his sense of urgency was sometimes controlling and…[Read more] -

It was just before my graduation that I decided to take a leap out of my comfort zone. Every year, representatives of graduate students of University of Medicine, Mandalay throw their own graduation party. Unfortunately, there was no active representative in my class, and none for the party was planned even in 1 month of pre graduation. That’s…[Read more]

Without true communication, we listen, but we don’t hear, because the spotlight is on us. With true communication, we hear both what they say and what they don’t say by shifting the spotlight to the speaker.

For me to give the data to the research team, these 2 criteria must be fulfilled. First, there must be consent given for research purposes in the form signed by the subjects. Second, the research team can provide the approval from local ethical committee after their ethical considerations have all been addressed.

As a health information professional, I have no right to disclose the information to my friend. In this case, I would directly ask the attending physician if my friend knows her husband’s HIV status or not. I’m sure of the physician with deep understanding of ethics that he/she have already planned about information disclosure with the patient.…[Read more]

I consider the new information system in my organization a failure because mainly of cost and people. There was limitation in budget availability. Thanks for your example of remote monitoring e-health project. The way you presented about the values of the project is fascinating. However, I am afraid the requirement of high-tech monitoring devices might be a burden for the patients in terms of cost although beneficial in terms of data validity and timeliness for effective monitoring and intervention.
