KeymasterHello TMHG 517 Class,
Welcome to TMHG 517 Statistical Methods in Spatial Epidemiology! The course materials should now be accessible, and we hope the content will support and enrich your work throughout the term.
There are two important announcements I’d like to share:
1. AI Usage Policy
This course’s AI policy remains consistent with previous courses I’ve taught. Please review the following carefully:
Students are encouraged to explore how AI tools can support their learning process. You may use generative AI or AI-assisted technologies to improve readability, grammar, formatting, or to brainstorm ideas for assignments. However, AI tools must not be used to generate scientific content, perform data analysis, interpret results, or draw scientific conclusions in any submitted work.
If AI tools are used, you must include a disclosure statement at the end of your assignment specifying the tool (including version) and how it was used. All AI-assisted outputs must be critically reviewed, edited, and verified by you. You are fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of your work. Failure to properly disclose or misuse of AI tools will be considered a violation of the academic integrity policy.
Please also refrain from entering confidential or sensitive course materials into external AI systems. All course content is protected under copyright and may not be shared or reproduced without permission.
In short: AI tools may be used for language support and idea generation only. They must not be used to generate scientific content or conduct analyses. Disclose all usage clearly. This policy will also be posted on the website later.
2. Technical notes and group work for the class project
Some students in previous years encountered issues with R package versions and INLA compatibility. You may find helpful troubleshooting tips from those earlier discussion posts to save time and avoid similar problems from this FAQs https://mu-informatics.org/forums/forum/tmhg-517-statistical-methods-in-spatial-epidemiology-forum/course-forums/For the class project, you may work in pairs. However, you must declare your group members. Each student must also submit their own individual report. since grades will be assigned individually, based on each person’s report. As a reminder, AI usage rules also apply to the class project and must be disclosed accordingly.
If you have any questions or experience technical issues, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help ensure a smooth and enjoyable learning experience.
Cheers!
Chawarat and the team
