Topic for Seminar 10 is “Area-level socioeconomic deprivation and mortality differentials in Thailand:Result from principal component analysis and cluster analysis”
Discussion topics are as follow.
1. If you have limited resource to solve only one group, which group did you need to help first?
2. According to the study limitation, what are the strategy to improve the mortality statistics?
It was a very interesting topic.
1. One of my instructors from med school once asked us that if we were to buy only one: oral rehydration salts for many people or one high-tech laparoscopy machine which would cost the same, which we would buy. The number of lives saved from the same amount of resource is the justification factor in my opinion.
2. Digitalizing vital statistics at all levels of the hospitals would solve the problem, if feasible.
Thank you for the presentation.
1. I would consider to solve the cause of the problem, not only for the group which may help us to solve problem in all group.
2. Improving the quality of vital statistics will be of inestimable value to public health decision-makers. It will greatly increase confidence in the data, and thereby facilitate and promote the use of mortality and cause of-death statistics to ensure that resource allocation is evidence informed, and focuses on interventions most needed to improve overall population health levels.
