If you want to build a mobile app, what app do you want to build and why? What types of mobile app (native, web, and hybrid app) would you like to choose to build? Please provide your reasons.

I would like to build DrugDeli application, which can monitor the medication doctors prescribe to a patient. In one patient, there are many drugs that prescribes by physicians at single admission. Some medication must be dose-adjusted when the kidney function altered. Moreover, lots of medication has drug interaction. This application will help physicians monitoring and remind them to adjust the drug dosing or beware about drug interaction.
The type of mobile application that I would like to use is web app. The app will take the input data from the hospital database, for example, medication that a patient currently receive, dosage of each drug. For this reason, the native app will have limitation on gather information from the hospital database. Furthermore, I can build one app for multiple mobile OSs and it is easy to update the application if there is new information about medication.
Thank you.

Sound amazing!
At my institute, we do have clinical pharmacists in some in-patient departments to do these tasks daily; monitoring, rechecking, and giving us a suggestion. We communicate mainly through medication reconciliation forms and special notes. However, when comparing the number of patients and clinical pharmacists, this kind of app is a must, if available. It truly benefits both physicians and patients. Thank you for sharing. -

Great idea! Today, mobile apps play very important role in healthcare and I think the hospital can improve patient satisfaction through your DrugDeli.
To build a mobile app to support multiple operating systems, you have to use a cross-platform app development.Pongthep

Honesty, my working organization has developed a web application for health quarantine service. However, I feel that it is not enough as the mission of my institution is to conduct epidemiological surveillance which should detect the presence of communicable diseases in the community as much as we can. Therefore, the role of mobile apps should be exposed to health workers to optimize our surveillance activity.
If I was given a chance to establish a mobile app, I would like to develop a native app where it can only be accessed on a single platform (maybe for Android only). I chose the native app because its performance is known faster than the hybrid app. Although I know that hybrid could be accessed on various platforms, but I would not select the hybrid app. The most reasonable fact is that my app is dedicated only to healthcare workers working on their duties, so this is not for public free. For that reason, I have to select the segment in which that platforms are suited and I think that Android is the most popular platform among healthcare workers.

Of course, native app has better stability and performance compared to Hybrid or cross platform because it is designed for specfic OS, so it can take advantage of hardware on the OS itself.

I have plans to code a program that can analyze snake images to help distinguish which snakes are venomous or not. I wanted to develop this program because I found that many snake-bitten patients come to emergency rooms with a dead snake’s body (very pitiful) or a picture of it. It is not easy for a doctor or nurse to tell which snake it is and how venomous it is. The official Line “snake enters the house” is Thailand’s main channel to find the answers as mentioned earlier. This group consists of experts and snakes lovers, about 20 people help to do this work for charity, sometimes they are not convenient to answer questions 24 hours a day every day.
The purpose of this app is to help alleviate the burden of people who support this community, improving the efficiency of patient care and managing limited resources in hospitals. And finally, it also allows people and snakes to coexist more without killing each other (most snakes are killed).
In the process of releasing this product, I plan to start by making a web app. To be a pilot app with the advantage of low cost and development time, moreover, it has high visibility which can be accessed from both pc and mobile.

As I’m really scared of snakes, I really look forward to this application !
By the way, I think if this application would be launched. The developers could also use the data collected from user to analyze the trend of snake bite in Thailand.

I actually wish to build an app for Clinical Decision Support System. Provided that there are many patients today and they totally exceed the number of health care providers available, I want to build a tool that help diagnosing or decision making for simple patients’ complaints so that they could save their time and reduce the workload as much as possible.I would write the application front-end as a hybrid app so they can be available on most compatible devices regardless of the operating system (aka. Cross-platform) and reduce the cost, developers’ skills, workloads, maintenance as they don’t have to invest too much resources in a specific platform. The API, used in processing input may be written using Python ( as it is a popular language for machine learning and its versatility) and exposes an access via REST API.

Absolutely, you can create an API with Python. Typically, we create APIs for frontend development because it saves time and improves developer efficiency.

Building a CDSS needs lots of data sets and validation to improve its accuracy. Nevertheless, a helping hand on decision-making would greatly improve patient care apart from solely relying on physician’s judgment.

Pharmacy stores in Thailand couldn’t link data to the hospital in the present, possibly because of security of patient’s information and treatment have to be concerned. Medical allergies and medical prescribed are the regularly used informations at the pharmacy and mostly in paper forms which people don’t carry or lose it. Some people use the same old medical prescription to refill the medicine and don’t visit hospital.
I would start to a build mobile application to connect some data between pharmacy, hospital and patient. Pharmacist at pharmacy stores could link to the recent medical prescription, record refill of medicine and notify the patient for the next visit at hospital when the prescription expired. Electronic adverse drug reactions card could be recorded with details of adverse drug reaction scores and symptoms.
With all the linked data in this application, patients could have their own electronic records to use when they change the services and all the health care workers could work together precisely.Based from my idea above, I would use Hybrid App for my application. The general users (patient) tend to use and carry mobile phone (iOS or Android ) while health care workers might use the provided computers (Windows)at their organization. Targeting the overall population, this application has to be compatible with many operating systems. Hybrid app allows developer to build applications which can work in multiple platforms by using a single standard code so applications could be launched quicker and number of developers involved might be smaller. However, testing between different operating systems has to be performed because variations of user interface could happen.

You have a good understanding of the types of mobile apps. Hybrid app development is a good option to support multiple OS.
However, sharing information between hospitals, pharmacies, and patients themselves is a very challenging thing. There are many things to keep in mind. especially data security, patient safety and confidentialityGood post,

I would like to create a “PreopPro” application that combines all the preoperative data and processes from a multi-department together and that integrates with the existing database. The concept is like a one-stop service. Nowadays when patients have to go through surgery, there’s a lot of paperwork and preoperative checklist to get through such as laboratory orders, x-ray orders, falling risk checklist, DVT risk checklist, previous medical conditions, current medication list, cross-match of blood order, inter-department consultation appointments form (Internal medicine and anesthesiologist), and their feedbacks. In addition, for the operation that needs implants, there will be a tools checklist and its appraisal also insurance coverage form. With all data linked and integrate with existing database, we could reduce processing time each steps and get more precise assessment results.
I would use hybrid App for this application. The target users are multi-department healthcare workers who use various platforms and multiple operating systems and they can work online and offline with this app. In terms of app development, it’s cheaper, faster build times and easier update compare to native apps.-

If I were to build a mobile app, I’d like to develop a game with in-app purchases. Games are always on demand from gamers; however, you should be able to bring something new to the market. In-app purchases will enable return of revenue on time and resources spent on developing the app. On gaming, it is preferred to have a native app installed on the phone to fully maximize the graphics and resources of the mobile phone. Although there is an innovative approach where you can “stream” games from the cloud, issues on connectivity highly impacts the gaming experience.

If I could magically build on application, I would build the “Clinical Research Associate Document Bot” or “CRADocBot” application.
I’m working as CRA for around one year and have faced the problem of documents workload. During CRA on-site visit, we need to reconcile the clinical trials documents, take photos, convert to pdf files, naming appropriately and upload in to sponsor eTMF (electronic trial master file system). Sometimes we took more than hundreds of photos in each on-site visit. These tasks are super time consuming. I’m pretty sure that this is the most common pain point of CRA.
Therefore, I would like to develop the mobile application that allows CRA to take the photo and convert the pdf automatically. If possible, this application should have OCR function to detect to essential details in the document and turn it into document file naming attributes. CRA could choose whether to upload immediately or would upload these documents later.
Based on these functions, I think to native mobile application suits best. As this application need to access the phone camera. In my opinion, there is no need to develop such application in the web-based platform since the application, itself, was designed to work only on mobile platform.

I agree with you that is the pain point of CRA! Your application is very interesting that it could convert photo to pdf and file naming attribute. This saves time for us to do other tasks. From my experience, I used OneDrive Application to take photo of documents and convert to PDF and that automatically upload into my OneDrive folder, but we need to manually naming the documents. This OneDrive application process is still time-consuming to collect each file.

As a pharmacist, if I have the chance to build an application, I would like to create an application “MyAllergy”. This application would help the patient who has allergies to medicine, food, or herbs to record their allergic history. From my experience, several patients have visited a hospital with their memory of allergies and/or loss of allergy card (sometimes, unclear symptoms and kinds of medicines). This information is highly important for healthcare professionals to decide on treatment. This application will record patient allergic history, not only by patients themselves but also by healthcare providers.
The users of this application will be both patients and healthcare professions (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, etc.). Let’s breakdown into each type of user.
1. Patient interface – this user will have their own QR code specific for their National ID number and the patient will be able to record their known allergy, symptoms related and timeline. By recording allergic history, patients can see what kind of medicine or food they should avoid as some medicines may have cross-allergy within its group. Patients can bring this application to everywhere they go for hospital, private clinic or drug store.
2. Healthcare provider interface – user can scan QR code of each patient to see their allergic history and are also able to record allergies if newly identify or known history by consulting the patient. Physicians or pharmacists can check whether the medicines to be prescribed are allergic to patients or not as this program will integrate the drug database. This type of application could be created as a hybrid app type as it could work on multiple platforms. I believe that it would provide a user-friendly application both for patients and healthcare professionals.

I would like to develop a mobile application that links the bacterial database to identify pathogenic bacteria. Based on infectious diseases, there are several pathogenic bacteria that share the same common symptoms. This application will support the identification of bacteria that cause disease. This app will be applicable to physicians and patients. I think I will select the hybris app as a type of mobile app because I want that both android and iOS can use this application.

I would love to develop an mobile application that provide healthcare information about common pathogens found in Thailand. When users turn on their location service, they can see which pathogens are commonly found or currently spread in their nearby location. The app will provide specific area of spreading along with essential information about each pathogen that found in the area such as severity, symptom when infected, and how to stay safe from infection.
