In light of our limited IT resources and the need for a fast and efficient solution, I propose utilizing a Fully Open-Source SaaS platform like OpenEMR for our web-based patient appointment system. Opting for a cloud server over a physical one offers us scalability, reduced costs, and easier maintenance, all crucial factors given we have only one IT support officer whose primary tasks are already quite demanding. Utilizing an open-source SaaS solution allows us to cut down significantly on development time and costs, as many core functionalities are pre-built. Additionally, OpenEMR offers the flexibility for user-centered design adaptations, making it a perfect fit for our need to tailor the system according to our specific clinical workflows and patient needs. This approach aligns well with our public health and disease prevention focus, offering future analytics and machine learning implementation opportunities.
